This annual event is truly a celebration of the gift of life, with each of the participants having survived a life-saving transplant operation, thanks to the generosity of donor families. The British transplant games was first held in 1978 with the aim of publicity and visibly demonstrating the benefits of successful organ transplants. Over 1000 people attend the game seach year, including competitors from 4 to 79 years of age.We have certainly come a long way since then.

 What is Transplant Sport UK?
The Association has been in existence since 1978 - founded by Transplant Surgeon Maurice Slapak as a result of the first Transplant Games held in Portsmouth.
Their aim is to raise awareness of the need for organ donation by demonstrating the benefits of transplantation. They do this by staging sporting events in the UK througout the year.
The main annual event is the British Transplant Games, which is held at different venues each summer over four days. The games bring together some 700 transplant athletes aged from 3 to 80 years who compete in a range of sporting competitions. Some aim to win medals, training througout the year, whilst others enjoy the annual gatherings of old friends, taking part in the sports events at their own level and joining in the social programme.
What sports are on offer?
