                                      POEMS FROM TRANSPLANTED PATIENTS

MY DONOR FAMILY

I received a gift back in ’02
It came from someone I never knew.
It came with no card, ribbon or bows
But sent to me that’s all I know.

It didn’t arrive in a box or sack
And is a gift one would never send back.

The gift in size is rather small
Compared to its power to conquer all.

You’ll never hold this gift in your hand
It’s given to people throughout the land...

This beautiful gift has set me free
What a precious gift and given to me.

This gift was given out of selfless love
And delivered to me with help from above.

These gifts are so priceless, valuable and few
When you know of this gift, you will agree too.

With this gift I can hold my head high
To dream the impossible and reach for the sky.

This gift has taught me to scream and shout
Now let me tell you what this gift is about.

This gift will not be taken in strife
The gift I speak of is that of life.

The gift of life handed me a key
It opened doors and set me free.

Organs aren’t needed at your final destination
Leave them on Earth without hesitation.

Every human will someday be called to come home
Your organs may stay and continue to roam.

No need for organs in the heavens above
Leave them on Earth for others to live & love.

Now that all has been said and done
Please donate your organs and give life to one.

Let’s spread the news let’s scream and shout
Organ donation is what it’s all about
           IF NOT FOR YOU
       If not for you
There would not be me
That gift of life
You gave to me

There were tears of joy.
There were tears of sorrow.
You gave me hope,
for a brighter tomorrow.

I wiped away the tears
Tried not to cry
Knew some would live
And others die.

The only way
I could understand
Was to realise
Was part of god's plan.

If not for you
What would I do?
God chose someone
He sent you.

Now a part of you
In me has thrived
Thanks to you donor,
I have survived.

And with each new day,
This thought comes through
I would not be alive,
      If not for you.

Thank You

An Incredibly astounding gift,
Priceless beyond worth.
The power to see the beauty
And the loveliness of earth.

To see the sunset in the west.
Be aware of each new dawn.
Perceive the radiance of a flower. Witness a child new born.

To know the rapture and the wonder
Of recognising cherished faces.
The love reflected in their eyes,
No other sence replaces.

To thrill to a baby's first smile,
A delight beyond mere measure,
And with this most amazing gift,
To grant those we love more pleasure.

Behold the beauty of the rose,
A bird with fluttering wings,
Comprehend earth's awsome treasures
All of lifes magic things.

To read a book or paint a flower,
Sculpt with marble, wood or stone,
Compose songs, orchestrate the music,
Create a special poem.

More than diamonds, rubies,
Emerald,  gold or jade,
Is this fantastic favour,
The miracle of sight you gave.

To have the freedom just to walk,
And never blindly fall,
A priviledge greater than moneyed
wealth,
The greatest gift of all.

The exhiliration and the marvel,
Of being able just to see,
Words could never thank you half enough
For the riches you've given to me.

                  A NEW LIFE
There was a time not long ago,
When It seemed the end was very near
A time when perhaps I soon would find
What lay in store for those like me.

And when I considered that someone I had never met,
Had died so that I may live,
I thought of a certain Easter morning,
When a stone was rolled back,
And the world saw that after even the darkest hours,
There always comes the golden dawn of a wonderful life ahead.

There was something inside that told me,
There was nothing that I need fear,
That with faith and hope in this heart of mine,
A new tomorrow would wait for me.

And now that tomorrow is here,
Casting aside the mists and doubts of uncertainty,
Bringing instead the brightness nd vision,
That comes with a simple and thankful heart.

And now in the quiet of each evening there comes a moment,
When my thoughts turn to a place far beyond the moon and the stars,
The moment when I have no need to speak in mortal words,
The moment when I know that my simple "Thank You" here on earth,
Has been heard by both God himself,
And the unknown friend who gave me the chance to live my life once more.

                                       POEMS FROM ORGAN DONORS
       Remember Me (1)
The day will come when my body will lie upon a white sheet neatly tucked under four corners of a mattress located in a hospital; busily occupied with the living and the dying.
At a certain moment a doctor will determine that my brain has ceased to function and that, for all intents and purposes, my life has stopped.
When that happens, do not attempt to instill artificial life into my body by the use of a machine. And don't call this my deathbed. Let it be called the bed of life, and let my body be taken from it to help others lead fuller lives.

Give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby's face or love in the eyes of a woman.
Give my heart to a person whose own heart has caused nothing but endless days of pain.

Give my blood to the teenager who was pulled from the wreckage of his car, so that he might live to see his grandchildren play.

Give my kidneys to the one who depends on a machine to exist from week to week.

Take my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve in my body and find a way to make a crippled child walk.

Explore every corner of my brain.

Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that, someday a speechless boy will shout at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain agianst her window.

Burn what is left of me and scatter the ashes to the winds to help the flowers grow.

If you must bury something, let it be my faults, my weakness and all prejudice against my fellow man.

Give my sins to the devil.

Give my soul to God.

If, by chance, you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.

  Remember Me (2)
I am with you along your pathway,
Thinking of all the days we shared,
Through our good days and our bad
The way I played, happy that you were near.
Remember me and smile.

My troubles you shared, and wiped away my tears.
Your love vanished all my fears.
Dont be sad, remember me and smile.
I broke your hearts when I left,
But I am with you all the while,
Through the sunset and the dawn.
Do not cry, I am near.
Remember me - and smile.

I will be waiting for you in the sky,
To meet you when your time is nigh.
And I will greet you with a smile,
As we talk together side by side.
Remember me and smile.

                              If I Knew

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep.
I would tuck you in more tightly
And pray the Lord your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
That I see you walk out of the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
And call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
So I could play them back day after day.

If I knew It would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute or two
To stop and say "I love You,"
Instead of assuming you KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
So I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
To make up for an oversight,
And we always get a second chance
To make everything right.

There will always be another day
To say our "I Love Yous,"
And certainly there's another chance
To say our "Anything I can do's?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
And today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
And hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
Young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
You get to hold your loved ones tight.

So If you're waiting for tomorrow,
Why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
You'll surely regret the day.

That you didn't take that extra time
For a smile, a hug, or a kiss
And you were to busy to grant  someone,
What turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
And wisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
And that you'll always hold them dear.

Take time to say "I'm sorry "Please forgive me,"
"Thank You," or "It's okay,"
And if tomorrow never comes,
You'll have no regrets about today.

Terms
I cannot think of tomorrow
Or even yesterday,
They say we'll come to 'terms'
With the loss of you one day.
I try so very hard to learn,
The meaning of the word,
I try to understand
What people try to say,
As they turn their head;
And walk along their way.

I thought of all the happy times,
As I woke today,
Perhaps I'll learn today, to come to 'terms'.
I hate that word, It won't go away;
Because my love,
I can never come to  'terms'
At the loss of losing you.

So tomorrow I'll start anew,
And keep my own idea,
And keep you in my heart,
As I learn we had to part,
And live my life without you.
To come to 'terms', this I can do,
To love you was all we ever wanted to do

               To Remember Me
Intro,
The day will come when my body will lie upon a white sheet neatly tucked under four corners of a mattress located in a hospital busily occupied with the living and dying, let this bed be called the Bed of Life and let my body be taken from it to help others lead fuller lives.

Give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby's face or love in the eyes of a woman.

Give my heart to a person whose own heart has caused nothing but endless days of pain.

Give my blood to a teenager who was pulled from the wreckage of his car, so that he might live to see his grandchildren play.

Give my kidneys to one who depends on a machine to exist from week to week.

Take my bones, every muscle, every fibre and nerve in my body and find a way to make a crippled child to walk.

Explore every corner of my brain, take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that, someday, a speechless boy will shout at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against her window.

Burn what is left of me and scatter the ashes to the wind to help the flowers grow.

If you must bury something, let it be my faults, my weaknesses and all prejudice against my fellow man.

Leave my sins at the cross.

Give my soul to god.

If, by chance, you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you.

If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.

My Deep Love

The sea is an ocean
As deep as our love for you.
We cannot bear the thoughts
Of life without you.
The sun rays on the ocean,
Bring our warmest love to you.
The stars are the candles,
That light the way for you.
The moon is the everlasting face,
That shines upon you.
Our hope and dreams vanished
That dark day we lost you.

Gift of a Child

I'll Lend you for a little time,
A child of mine,  he said,
For you to love the while she lives,
And mourn for when she's dead.

It may be six or seven years -
Or twenty two or three,
But will you, till I call her back,
Take care of her for me.

She'll bring her charm to gladden you,
And should her stay be brief,
You'll have her lovely memories,
As solace for your grief.

I cannot promise she will stay,
Since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there,
I want this child to learn.

I've looked this wide world over, -
In search of teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life's land,
I have decided upon you.

Now will you give her all your love,
Nor think the labour vain,
And hate me when I come to call,
To take her back again.

I fancy that I heard them say -
Dear lord thy will be done
For all the joy this child will bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.

And for the happiness we've known,
Forever grateful stay,
We'll shelter her with tenderness,
We'll love her while we may.

And should the angels call for her -
Much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
And try to understand.

                                                                                A LETTER FROM HEAVEN.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say, but first of all to let you know , I arrived OK.
I am writing this from Heaven where I dwell with God above , where there's no more tears
or sadness, there is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight, remember thai I'm with you every
                                                                          morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when life on earth was through. God picked me up and hugged
me and said "I welcome you".
It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone, as for your dearest
family they'll be here later on.
I need you here so badly as part of my big plan, there's so much we have to do to help our
                                                                                    mortal man.
Then god gave me a list of things he wished for me to do and foremost on that list of mine
is to watch and care for you.
And I will be beside you every day, week and year and when you're sad I am standing there
                                                                              to wipe away the tear.
And when you lie in bed at night the days chore's put to flight. God and I are closer to you in
                                                                              the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on Earth and all those living years, because you're only human they
are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry, It does relieve the pain, remember there would be no flowers
                                                                        unless there were some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that god has planned, but if I were to tell you, you wouldn't
                                                                                       understand.
But one thing is for certain though my life on earth is no more, I am closer to you now than
                                                                                I ever was before.
And to my very many friends , trust God knows what is best, I'm still not very far away from
you, I'm just beyond the crest.
There are rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb, but together we can do it, taking
                                                                                one step at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I would like it for you too, that as you give unto the world, so
the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow or in pain,  then you can say to God at night, "My day
                                                                                was not in vain."
And now I am contented, that my life was worthwhile, knowing that as I passed along the way I
                                                                        made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is down and feeling low, just lend a hand to pick them up as along
                                                                                 the way you go.
When you are walking down the street and you have got me on your mind, I am walking in your
footsteps only half a step behind.
And when you feel a gentle breeze or the wind upon your face, that's me giving you a great big
hug or just a soft embrace.
And when it's time for you to go from that body to be free remember, you're not going, you're
                                                                           coming home to me.
And I will always love you from that land way up above - will be in touch again soon.

           P.S  God sends his love.
